Whose Glory?

And He (Jesus) died for all, that those who live might no longer live for themselves, but for Him who for their sake died and was raised.

2 Corinthians 5:15

Jesus came to save us from our sin problem. That problem focuses all of our thoughts and desires in filling and getting glory for ourselves instead of giving glory to God. We buy and collect things to make us look better. We look for people to praise us and tell us how good we are. We chase after jobs and projects that show off our talents and abilities. All of this is for our glory. And when these people and things don’t please us we respond in anger and disbelief.

God is the only rightful and deserving one of glory. We were made in His image to reflect His glory to Him not us. Jesus death on the cross put to death the bondage or slavery to sin and self-glory. He died that we might no longer live for ourselves but live for a much greater purpose – His glory!

In Revelation 5:10 we have a glimpse of all of heaven singing

“Worthy is the Lamb who was slain, to receive power and wealth and wisdom and might and honor and glory and blessing!”

Only Jesus Christ, God’s Son, is worthy of honor and glory. Lord, may we make our focus on your glory and not on our own.

God bless you and your family this Christmas as you consider where glory is focused in your lives.
