Who is king?

But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things will be added to you.

Matthew 6:33 ESV

The baby born in a stable in Bethlehem was King of kings and Lord of lords. The wise men came with royal gifts of gold, frankincense, and myrrh because they saw the star of a king in the night sky. Jesus, the Messiah, born with the rightful title of king of Israel  because He was from the house and royal line of King David. But He never sat on the throne or ruled over the nation during his thirty-three years on earth.

Jesus instead preached about the kingdom of heave when He was appointed to rule in the hearts of all men in women – but only those who would willingly bow to His authority. Because of our natural sin-nature, we want to be the kings and queens of our own loves and we sin against God and others whenever our “royal demands” are not met.

Who is your king? You or Jesus? Have you stepped down and given Jesus the throne and rightful authority as Lord of your heart and life?

God bless you and your family this advent season as we consider the humble birth of the King of Heaven.
