Rediscover Church: Why the Body of Christ is Essential

We are starting 2022 with a new sermon series called Rediscover Church, based on the 9Marks/Gospel Coalition book by Hansen and Leeman. We hope you will join us to see why being part of a local church is so essential. A Christian without a church is a Christian in trouble according to Leeman. Don’t try to go it alone – become part of a local church and get connected!

After church doors were closed, polarizing political and racial strife, and on-going health concerns, many people began to pull away from church and each other. Rediscover Church will show us God’s true intention for our corporate gathering: to spiritually strengthen members as individuals and the body of Christ. And of course to share the good news of the Gospel with our community that desperately needs to find the hope that is found only in Jesus Christ.

Sunday Sermons will answer nine key questions about the church through God’s Word and our Growth Groups will take time to further explore the biblical basis. Get a FREE copy of the book at any of our Growth Groups.

The nine questions this series will answer are listed below:

  1. What is a church?
  2. Who can belong to a church?
  3. Do we really need to gather?
  4. Why are preaching and teaching central?
  5. Is joining actually necessary?
  6. Is church discipline really loving?
  7. How do I love members who are different?
  8. How do we love outsiders?
  9. Who leads?

What is a Church?

The book’s definition of a church answers these questions.

A church is a group of Christians who assemble as an earthly embassy of Christ’s heavenly kingdom to proclaim the good news and commands of Christ the king to affirm one another as his citizens through the ordinances and to display God’s own holiness and love through a unified and diverse people in all the world following the teaching and example of elders.
