Prayer for Missionaries
If you were not individually called by God to “Go make disciples” (Matthew 28:19-20) then you fall under His commands to pray for, financially support, and encourage those who are going. At First Baptist Church, we want to obey God and be a “Great Commission” church. That means that we are discipling and preparing people for ministry near and far and we are supporting those we send out. The Apostle Paul asked the believers in Colossae to “continue steadfastly in prayer for us” (Colossians 4:2-4). Your prayers are needed!
So often we pray a blanket statement like “and God bless the missionaries” instead of specific, powerful, persistent prayer for them. The following seven areas of prayer came from a Wycliffe post. You can read the complete original article HERE.

- PRAY FOR BOLDNESS
- PRAY THAT GOD’S WORD WILL SPREAD
- PRAY FOR PROTECTION (Spiritual and Physical)
- PRAY FOR EFFECTIVE MINISTRY
- PRAY FOR TRAVEL
- PRAY FOR REFRESHMENT
I would add to this list: pray for their families on the mission field and at home, community connections, encouraging relationships with fellow missionaries.
