New Year’s Thoughts & Challenge

In Colossians 2:13-14 we learn that when Jesus Christ died on the cross, He paid the penalty for our sins, He canceled the debt we owed, and He provided forgiveness for all our sins.

“And you, who were dead in your trespasses and the uncircumcision of your flesh, God made alive together with Him, having forgiven us all our trespasses, by canceling the record of debt that stood against us with its legal demands. This He set aside, nailing it to the cross.”

Colossians 2:13-14 (ESV)

The good news for believers is that He has made you alive and forgiven you. Those sins no longer define or control you. What happened in the past, what happened in 2017 is behind you. Have you experienced the freedom from those sins?

So the question is “Are you dead or alive?” If you have trusted Jesus Christ as your Savior and turned away from your sin, are you living a new life?

As you think about the new year and the things you want to change in your life; things you want to accomplish… Here are some resolution starters:

  • I am forgiven, I will not see myself _________
  • I am dead to sin, through Christ’s strength in me, I will no longer do _________
  • I am complete in Christ, I don’t need ____________I am alive in Christ, I will now do ________________

When you make the list of things you want to stop doing or the list of things you want to start doing, do you see yourself as dead or alive?

May God bless you and keep you as we begin a new year together.
