Mighty God

For to us a child is born, to us a son is given; and the government shall be on his shoulder, and his name shall be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.

Isaiah 9:6 ESV

Jesus Christ, the Messiah, would be called “Mighty God” because he was fully God incarnate (in flesh) – born to a virgin and also fully man.

He came to earth with the mission of saving mankind from sin and its consequence of eternal separation from God. Glorifying his Father in Heaven, he was able to use divine power to heal the sick, make the lame walk, the deaf hear, the blind see, and the dead rise to life. Only the Mighty God could do these things. This was proof of his deity.

Only the Mighty God could conquer death and the grace. Jesus was crucified, died, buried and rose on the third day in accordance with the Scriptures (1 Cor. 15:3-4).

We could not and can not save ourselves. We don’t have the power to do that, only Jesus does. “Even when we were dead (spiritually lifeless & powerless) in our trespasses (sins) (God) made us alive together with Christ – by grace you have been saved.” Ephesians 2:5 ESV

May God bless you and your family and friends during this advent season. Draw closer to God who brought us salvation through His Son, Jesus.
