God’s Comforting Promises

Key Idea

God’s promises usually say more about who He is or what He is doing than about a certain situation or an outcome we may desire.

How you doing?

Is everything going perfectly according to your plans? Is 2020 turning out just the way you hoped it would? Who could use some comfort today? Today we will look at six passages in the Bible that promise God’s comfort when we are afraid, burdened, afflicted, in mourning, persecuted and when life is hard. God is always with us and He comforts us because He loves us.

Six Comforting Promises

  • Psalm 23:4
  • Psalm 55:22
  • Psalm 119:75-77
  • Matthew 5:4, 12
  • John 14:27
  • 2 Corinthians 1:3-4

The Gospel

Just before Jesus told His Disciples He would give them peace, He told them He was going to prepare a place for them – that’s heaven – and that He would return for them. One of the Disciples, named Thomas, asked how they would find their way to heaven. Jesus answered “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.” Jesus Christ, God’s Son, demonstrated God’s love by offering His own life as the only acceptable sacrifice for our sins, then rose from the dead proving He is God. If you have you never confessed your sin and your need for the Savior; I invite you to answer His call today and trust Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior. Take Aways

Where do you turn for comfort when you are afraid or worried?

Do you look for something or someone to take your mind off your problems?

God tells us to bring our burdens and our requests to Him in prayer.

Do you view your trials as something that will help you learn and grow? As something that will help you care for others?

Or do you see them only as punishment and things to avoid and quickly forget?

God promises peace when we pray to Him with thanksgiving.
