A Changed Heart
Scripture: Micah 6
Introduction
We see a holy God who first warns His people and then brings judgment on continued sin through His perfect justice. We find hope in a God whose merciful character forgives sin and pardons rebellion. And we find hope in God’s promises to show His covenant love to Abraham’s offspring (Israel) and ultimately to restore His creation through the Messiah’s kingdom.
Through His prophet, Micah, God calls Israel and people everywhere to repent of their sin and authentically worship the one true God. Worship should be a life oriented completely around God and not something we do on Sundays. God points out the failures of Israel and Judah’s leaders and calls people to act with justice, to love showing mercy, and humbly walk or live with God. Because of God’s perfect justice, judgment will fall on those who disobey His Word, but there is mercy for those who repent and ultimate hope for God’s final restoration of His creation.
Two weeks back, when we were in chapter 5, Micah told the people that a ruler from ancient days is coming to shepherd His people in strength and majesty of God Himself. He is again referring to the Millennial Kingdom. Today in chapter 6, we reach the famous verse about justice, kindness, and humility and we see what the punishment for sin is all about. Ultimately, God is looking for a changed heart.
