Hope for the Weary

Scripture: John 11:1-44

God’s Purposes

Bethany – 2 miles from Jerusalem

Mary, Martha and Lazarus
Does God love you?
Your identity in Christ – loved
Jesus waits two days
God’s purposes – His glory
Isaiah 55:8-9

Weary Faith

Weariness can weaken our faith
Does God really care?
Jesus knows Lazarus has died
If only you were here sooner!
Martha’s theology is strong but her faith is struggling

New Life in Christ

If only you were here sooner!
Jesus wept
Jesus, It’s too late!
Lazarus comes back to life
God is glorified!
Jesus brings community into ministry together
2 Cor. 5:17 – A New Creation
Gal 6:1 – Restore others

Take Aways

Have you found the new life I’ve been talking about? Have you admitted that you are a sinner who needs a Savior? Like Martha, have you said “Jesus is the Son of God and my Savior?” No one is too far gone. While you are still here on earth it is never too late. God wants to bring your soul back to life! Come talk to me.

Maybe you’ve been following Jesus for some time, but you have grown weary with life’s struggles. Has your faith weakened? Have you grown tired of waiting and you’ve lost hope that God is still working? Make sure your theology matches your personal faith. Remember who God is and remember your identity in Christ. He loves you. He is always with you. He will not stop doing a work in your life until He has completed it. Spend some time talking to God and if you want to talk to someone, you can come forward to meet with a brother or sister.

As we talk about Christ’s death, burial and resurrection throughout the upcoming week, remember that Jesus is the resurrection and He not only gives you eternal life, but He gives new life here on earth.
