Scripture: Mark 2:18 – 3:6

What about Fasting?

But in verse 20, Jesus talks about a time coming, when He, the bridegroom, will be taken away and then the disciples will fast. Jesus is referring to his crucifixion and return to heaven. There is a time and place for fasting and focus on spiritual growth, but Jesus said it is not now.

There are times when you may choose to fast and pray about important decisions or just a time to draw close to God reading His word. In another scripture passage, Jesus said, don’t let everyone know you are fasting – it’s just between you and God. Again – it’s about your heart’s desire to know and glorify God not about being forced to do something because of tradition.

What about the Sabbath?

Religion that wants to keep all of the traditions and rules often gets focused on what we are doing instead of accepting God’s grace and forgiveness as Robert read for us in Romans 8.

What about People?

Summary

Jesus summarized God’s law into two simple commands: Love God with all your heart and love your neighbor as yourself.
